Our local MP, Alec Shelbrooke, has shown his support for British growers and farmers on Back British Farming Day, recognising the vital role that farmers across Elmet and Rothwell play in feeding the nation.
Back British Farming Day is a chance to reflect on the importance of British farming, an industry that provides jobs for almost 4 million people and is worth more than £120 billion to the British economy.
Commenting, Alec said, "I am proud to represent farmers here in Elmet and Rothwell and to show my recognition of their work on Back British Farming Day. As well as providing high quality, eco-friendly food for the nation, farmers maintain and care for our iconic countryside and make a huge contribution to our local economy. The crisis in Ukraine has shown us just how important it is to have a resilient farming sector to ensure our food security, so it is right that we recognise this important industry on Back British Farming Day."
