Elmet and Rothwell Constituency
Elmet and Rothwell was a newly formed constituency at the 2010 General Election. We have an excellent sitting Member of Parliament, Alec Shelbrooke, who won the last election with a majority of 4,521 - a swing of 9.8% and the 12th largest in the North.
The bulk of it is the old Elmet seat, with parts of Leeds North East and Morley and Rothwell added, and some areas in the west lost to Leeds East.
It stretches from Rothwell in the south, up the east side of Leeds past Garforth, to Wetherby and Boston Spa in the north. It falls entirely within the Leeds Metropolitan area, comprising five council wards; Wetherby, Harewood, Garforth and Swillington, Kippax and Methley, and Rothwell.
Elmet and Rothwell Conservative Association serves a varied semi rural area, with several towns and numerous villages throughout and a total electorate of some 78,000. With a busy calendar of events and active political team we attract people from all walks of life. We believe that we’re one of the best associations in the area.
All our elected representatives live locally. Alec has lived in Elmet & Rothwell for well over a decade and worked as a kitchen and bathroom fitter in the area before taking a job as a project manager at the University fo Leeds. Our Councillors care deeply about their local communities and work tirelessly with local people to improve our area.
We campaign on a number of local and national issues, with the aim of improving the lives of those in the area, as well as protecting our valuable environment for future generations.
